40/80 Home takes its name from part of the land that shaped my childhood: two separate plots of farmland—one 40 acres, the other 80 acres—worked by our family for generations. Those fields weren't just a place to grow crops—they were where we learned the value of hard work, patience, doing things right.

Growing up on that land meant waking up to the smell of clean fresh air, watching the seasons change the landscape, and understanding that quality takes time. It meant knowing your neighbors, respecting the earth, and building things that last.

From the farm to your home

I left the farm for career opportunities, but I carry forward the work ethic and principles learned growing up on the farm. After meeting my now wife, and moving around the country pursuing her career, I kept filtering through various makers trying to find those scents that could bring me back home. But finding home fragrances that felt genuine—made with clean ingredients and real intention—proved harder (and more expensive) than I wanted.

So I started making my own. What began as candles for myself, friends, and family grew into 40/80 Home: a small business dedicated to handcrafted home fragrances that honor the values learned on the farm.

It is just one artisan measuring, pouring, and testing each batch for a true scent throw. We source 100% organic soy wax from American Soy Organics based in Iowa, paired with clean oils free from harmful toxins sourced from Midwest Fragrance Company, CandleScience, and Hive & Honey.

Every candle sits on the rack to cure until the soy and oils are perfectly bound. We respect our environment, and our health, and never rush the effort, ensuring a safe burn for your home.
